Inescapable
prison
The Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp was created in 1940 as a part of the Nazi concentration camp grid, on the outskirts of the city Oświęcim (Auschwitz in German)
in Southern Poland, because of an advanced railway connection. Auschwitz became the largest Nazi concentration camp and eventually it was chosen to carry out the annihilation of the Jewish nation. There are visit Auschwitz and dead in it. It was a practically inescapable prison, where the people lived in outrageous, sub-human conditions, always malnourished, beaten and even experimented on.
Place of death
The Auschwitz complex was a place of suffering for millions of people, according to some sources even 5 million people might have been butchered there. Since 1942 it became a site of executing people of Jewish origin from all over Europe. After it was captured by the Allied Armies, it was decided that some of the complex should be rebuilt and a museum was established to commemorate the dead. Now it’s recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
